Stress test in Edmonton | Dr. Sunrinder Khinda May 2022
What is a stress test?
An exercise stress test (EST) is a simple and effective way to see how your heart is coping with increased activity and can determine if you have signs of heart disease. During the test, you will be asked to exercise on a treadmill while one of our doctors monitors your heart rate and blood pressure.
The doctor will increase the speed and possible incline of the treadmill. As your body works harder during the test, it needs more oxygen, which means your heart has to pump more blood. A stress test can show if the blood supply to the arteries supplying your heart is reduced.
Your doctor may order a stress test to:
Determine if you have coronary artery disease
Determine why you are experiencing symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness
Determine a safe level of exercise
Check the effectiveness of the procedure to increase blood flow in the coronary arteries
Predict the risk of heart attack
Depending on the results of the stress test, your doctor may recommend other tests, such as: B. nuclear stress test.
See Stress Test with Stress for more information about patients.
